Off the clock

There's more to a career than job titles

The roles on my About page are only ever part of the story. Here’s the rest of it.

Other things I’ve done, or still do

I’m a true believer that great things happen when you’re away from the keyboard (AFK), and I built that belief into my coaching practice — using walkshops to untangle complex problems, both professional and personal.

My greatest passion is music. I’ve played in a number of loud and brash bands with varying degrees of success, most notably Here There Be Monsters, a metalcore outfit from Brighton. We toured Europe, released a few records, and slept on too many dank floors and in too many transit vans. I ride motorcycles, bicycles and boards too, which is usually where I find things come unstuck — and where I get clear again.

I took up photography in my teens as a way to document what was going on around me. During the Flickr era I became known for a street photography portrait series, Trash Flavoured Trash = Trash Flavoured Trash, which got covered in national press, print and television. My portraits from The Great Escape Festival won best-of-the-fest at the Brighton Arts Festival, and my writing and photography featured in music journalism for Source, Drowned in Sound, Thrashhits, Rock Sound, Kerrang! and Pitchfork.

Being outdoors gives me energy. As much as I love playing video games, I get more out of riding bikes — with and without engines — snowboarding, surfing, and just being out walking.
